'Battle for the Bays', bays target golf tourney

Anyone who can swing a club can compete for more than $1,000 in cash and prizes on Sunday, July 13 when the Parrot Heads of Ocean City hold the sixth annual “Battle for the Bays” to benefit the Coastal Bays Foundation.

The event runs from noon-3 p.m. at Mellow Beach Sunset Bar on 46th Street in Ocean City. Duffers drive balls toward wooden targets set up in the bay. Golfers accumulate points for hitting targets, with the highest point-getters winning the best prizes which include free dinners, tee shirts, gift certificates, and rounds of golf. Clubs will be provided. Special floating golf balls will be used and subsequently gathered by volunteers. This year frisbees can be tossed at targets for prizes too. Prize values total over $1,500.

The $5 entry fee pays for a bucket of balls or frisbees and a free game at any Old Pro Golf miniature golf course. Additional balls and frisbees may be purchased to increase scores. Special food and drink prices will be ongoing throughout the tournament. Participants can enter any time during the event. Any age can participate, and special prizes will be available for youngsters.

The “Battle for the Bays” is sponsored by Old Pro Golf, Eagle’s Landing, Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club, Conectiv, the Kite Loft, Deer Run, Pohanka Automotive Group, Sopranos Pizza, Black Diamond Builders, Boardwalk Hotels Group, Triglia Express, K&L Microwave, and OC Baseball Cards.

The money raised during the fundraiser will be used to help the Coastal Bays Foundation implement education and water monitoring programs in the coastal bays watershed. Food and drink specials will be on-going at Mellow Beach throughout the day.
