Pick Up America Cleanup and MCBP Potluck - March 8, 2010
Pick Up America is a grassroots group dedicated to reducing plastic waste in our communities and waterways. Referred to as the Pick Up Artists, they are coordinating community trash clean-ups in communities in 13 states, ending in San Francisco around August, 2011.
The year-and-a-half-long trek begins Saturday, March 20 at 11 am near Assateague at the base of the Verrazano Bridge. The cleanup will continue to Assateague Road then toward the town of Berlin.
The group will provide bags, gloves, grabbers and reflector vests, but they need volunteers to help with the cleanup. Volunteers should park at the National Seashore Visitor Center. The Pick Up Artists will return volunteers to their vehicles at the end of the route.
At 6 pm that night the Pick Up Artists will join the Coastal Bays Program as we host a community potluck at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 3 Church St. in downtown Berlin. We need community members to bring food and/or beverages for the potluck.
No need to register for the cleanup, but if you plan to bring something to the potluck (and we hope you do!) please email ANITA.
