Climate Change is One Thing, Weather is Another - March 4, 2011

 

Like many conversations, the discussion started with the weather. But it wasn't idle chit-chat. No small talk here. At the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Environmental Science Training Center, in a room filled with 40 scientists and educators from across Maryland, jokes were made among the admittedly nerdy-science types. Jokes about the weather, global warming, and climate change. Hilarious, right? Well, some of the jokes were amusing, but climate change is not.

We were not actually there to discuss the weather, but to discuss climate science. And as NOAA Education Coordinator Bart Merrick reminded us, "we're talking about science here -- not values, not beliefs. Science."
