Lizard Hill Planting Complete

Lizard Hill

Thanks to the help of Conservation Corp volunteers and MCBP staff, the native plants taken from Lizard Hill prior to the construction are now back where they belong.

Throughout the summer, the plants were housed temporarily at the Assateague State Park while state highway contractors worked on creating the sand seepage wetland from this old abandoned gravel mine.

Last week, the plants were returned safely to the site, joining the over 6,000 Atlantic white cedar that were planted as a part of contract.  With construction and plantings complete, this project is coming to a close.

Shoreline Reclamation Project

Cape Isle of Wight Canal

Shoreline Reclamation Project

Work has been completed on the shoreline reclamation project in Cape Isle of Wight.  This Worcester County project was partially funded through a mini-grant from MCBP.  The grant covered plants and other materials and the County provided the manpower and equipment. Chris McCabe (Worcester County permitting) is the guy in the waders. The work was done on Oct. 24,2011 and plants will be installed on Oct. 27, 2011. The permitting folks from the county have volunteered to install the plants and they are looking forward to this opportunity to be a part of projects that they've seen on permit applications.

A Whale of a Time

 Whale

Thanks to the great work of National Baltimore Aquarium volunteers Chuck and Ellen Erbe MCBP had a huge presence at the Fall Home and Condo Show!

The 55' life size Sei Whale balloon was made out of trash bags. Attendees were able to go inside the whale to discover just how large this mammal is!

MCBP partnered with the National Aquarium and OC Surfriders for the weekend promoting clean waters. Thank you to all the MCBP volunteers who worked the booth to get the message out!

Thank You Ayers Creek Adventures

Ayers Creek Adventures held their Second Annual Haunted Paddle to raise money for both MCBP and Habitat for Humanity.

They held six paddles throughout the third weekend in October in which participants were provided a kayak tour which held a few ghoulish surprises!

Refreshments were available for sale afterwards....all donated by Ayres Creek Adventures to raise money for two great causes!
